"Lick bad animal behaviour"
by Joanne Hatherly
"StayAway is a compressed air canister fitted with a motion sensor that sounds a
high-pitched whine, followed by a short burst of air when activated. It sounds like
a cat hissing, and in fact, was meant for felines, not canines. Having already lost
three kilos of butter, we weren't in the mood to be species-specific.
I opened the cabinet doors to the kitchen trash and tucked the StayAway canister
alongside the fully loaded bin.
"If these dogs have lawyers, they'll have a field day with this," said Dave. "They'll
get the dogs off on entrapment."
Within minutes, Mucus snuck into the kitchen. We heard the alarm followed by a hiss.Mucus
beat a hasty, yet stealthy, retreat. The garbage remained exposed for four hours;
exactly three hours, 59 minutes and 20 seconds longer than it would have lasted
before the StayAway ambush."

"A Christmas surprise that will blow the cat away"
by Jura Koncius
"The new StayAway canister from Contech Electronics combines a battery-operated
motion-detection device that senses a pet prowling nearby and activates a burst
of compressed air and a one-second warning screech. Animals run for their lives,
hopefully never to return, according to Karen Schindelhauer, of the Canadian company,
whose motto is "promoting harmony between animals and humans." This is the same
firm that makes bird feeders that whirl to fling squirrels through the air and mats
that teach "good house manners" by zapping pets with a mild electrical pulse"
